What a season so far - Fall 2014 has been basically put to bed, and I'm glad for this time to plan for what's in store come 2015! After an excellent time with Bowling Green State University's New Music Ensemble at their Fall Festival, I had the extreme privilege of performing Morton Feldman's intense Three Voices in a trio. The piece (rarely performed with three live singers) took me to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Kent State University with two of my favorite singers and long-time collaborators, Amanda DeBoer Bartlett and Kayleigh Butcher. I have sung with these immensely talented women for four years as part of Quince Ensemble, whose debut album was also released this fall, to lovely reviews. Most recently, Quince performed (along with our newest member and absolutely brilliant talent Carrie Henneman Shaw) at Constellation Chicago, a venue we've performed in a few times now (we can't wait to return!) I am simply ecstatic to announce that I will be returning to Constellation on February 22, to perform Olivier Messiaen's Harawi with pianist Karl Larson (my first recital in Chicago!) After last year's performances at Baldwin Wallace University and Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, we couldn't wait to present the work again - this will be an unforgettable evening of otherworldly music, and I couldn't ask for a better collaborator in Karl. More announcements can be found on my updated schedule! After several months away in Lucerne and Kansas City, I am thrilled to be returning to Bowling Green State University next week for the MACCM New Music Festival! I will be performing works by Morgan Krauss, Christopher Dietz, and Reiko Fueting on Concert 2 at:
7:30pm Thursday, 10/16, in Kobacker Hall on the campus of BGSU. After that, it's off to Chicago to rehearse Three Voices with two of my dear Quince friends. . .we'll be touring Feldman and more in a few weeks! It's proving an excellent summer! I just returned from Omaha Under the Radar, a new contemporary music festival that treated Nebraska audiences to a wide range of music - from Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians, to chamber music in many acoustic and plugged-in forms, to modern dance collaborations. I had a beautiful time making and taking in the sounds with dear friends, new and old. Next up: Quince performs with the Grant Wallace Band in Cedar Rapids, IA and Evanston, IL - catch us next weekend (7/24 and 7/26). After all that, it's off to Lucerne!
Many exciting updates! First, I am thrilled to announce that I have been invited to the Lucerne Festival Academy this summer. With 39 other singers and 44 instrumentalists (and one Sir Simon Rattle), I have the opportunity to perform Luciano Berio's immense Coro. In addition, this summer brings many exciting projects - my Michigan Opera Theatre debut as a Handmaiden in Turandot, perfecting album edits for Quince's debut album Realign the Time, premiering Kurt Isaacson's the future of terror at Stanford with flutist Elise Roy, performances with several fabulous ensembles, and...relocating to the vibrant "Paris of the Plains" - Kansas City, Missouri. I look forward to making music and finding kindred spirits in this beautiful area of the central Midwest! And now, score study! This week I'll be performing in three places: Friday, 2/21 12:15p Simpson Building Brown Bag Lunch Concert Art songs of Britten, Barber, and Poulenc - with Kevin Bylsma later that same day...2/21 8p Bryan Hall, BGSU Noa Even (saxophone) DMA recital: Un lieu verdoyant - Phillipe Leroux Monday, 2/24 8p Conrad Room, Wolfe Center for the Arts, BGSU "Now through night's caressing grip..." - Music of Britten, Barber, and Poulenc With Kevin Bylsma In celebration of recent Harawi recitals with the inimitable Karl Larson, I have scheduled another pair of recitals this spring semester.

Join pianist Karl Larson and I tonight, at Baldwin Wallace University's Chamber Music Hall! This is the first stop on our tour of Olivier Messiaen's Harawi, and a dream come true for each of us. We cannot wait to share Messiaen's beautiful Tristan-inspired work with others.
This truly special piece is not to be missed - we will perform it again on Thursday at Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor. Details can be found on my schedule! |
