![]() Phew! After two crazy weeks of Quince touring and then Kerrytown's Edgefest (so many good concerts, so little time - all up in Ann Arbor) - I finally get to focus on some solo repertoire. Up first, my own personal EA festival! I have some Babbitt and Saariaho to start - which seem to share only the characteristic that both require work transcribing sounds into the International Phonetic Alphabet (my very favorite thing...other than the other kind of IPA). In addition, there'll be some Nono (oh, yesyes), a work written for me by Jon Fielder, and two pieces I procured while hurtling down the highway last week. The wonders of 21st century technology continue to amaze me. Story: I met the lovely Robert McClure at the MACCM New Music Festival at BGSU a few weeks back, and we started chatting about works for voice+electronics (tape or live). He graciously mentioned the work of another composer, Jon Christopher Nelson. He waited 'til later to share that he had a piece for soprano+electronics as well. . . Fast forward to some point along the tour-driving (alright, 10 minutes in - I'm an impatient passenger) I pulled out my phone to look up these gentlemen's works, and with phoneternet was able to contact both. Within hours both had sent me their pieces! I am so unbelievably excited to learn and perform now our grief is put away (McClure) and They Wash Their Ambassadors in Citrus and Fennel (Nelson). Now, to set a recital date!
