Week after Art Fair Song Fest review

8/8/2012

I had the great fortune to work with some lovely singers in the annual "Week After Art Fair Song Fest" at Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, MI. This year, the themes for the three nights were "Schwanengesang", "Contrasts", and the annual Cabaret night.  For the second night, I chose, among other things, to pair #11 from Schoenberg's Book of Hanging Gardens with "Stardust". I got some lovely feedback from audience members, one of whom was present to review the series - thus, I know she meant this kindly:

"Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust” sounded like a new composition...as it was sung by soprano Liz Pearse" - Ruth Crystal-Zaromp, Detroit New Monitor

Ms. Crystal-Zaromp had very complimentary words for some of my fellow singers, including Deanna Relyea (who is a Founder of KCH), Dr. Jane Schoonmaker Rodgers (my teacher), and Tim Bruno (who is becoming increasingly well-known in the Toledo Opera circuit!)
She also complimented my hairdo for the eve - on both counts, thank you so much!

Hey, I was Googling myself and this entry came up. Nice blog! Do you have a link for that review in the Detroit New Monitor? We don't get reviewed very often!

Liz, do you still have a copy of this review? I never saw it! I don't think we've ever been reviewed before.
